Radiohead: Any time I say “Radiohead” I mean three albums: Pablo Honey, The Bends, and OK Computer, the three that sound something like what Radiohead were originally. If I’m referencing from Kid A forward I will also add an album title for correct period (though probably only once per review).
Shoegaze: A British style of alterna-pop, dominated by distorted, droning guitars and a tendency for the musicians to spend shows staring at their effects pedals. Mostly personified by 90s bands such as Slowdive, Chapterhouse, Ride, and Lush. There is, however, a “nu-gaze” movement with notable bands being Silversun Pickups and Crystal Castles.
Mackenzie: For no reason I can explain, I think that Mackenzie is one of the prettiest names you could give your daughter.
Grebo: A brief musical and fashion scene in the UK that fused traditional pop and rock structures to the emergent electronic and sample cultures of the late 80s and early 90s. Exemplified by Pop Will Eat Itself, EMF, and Jesus Jones. The Wonder Stuff have been called grebo, but almost entirely based on clothes and their friendship with PWEI and not their sound.
